MK Battery’s Commitment to Sustainability

There has been plenty of talk about climate change and sustainable living in recent years. As we come to depend more on renewable energy and electric vehicles, some critics are quick to point out that building batteries can also be harmful to the environment. That is why MK Battery set out with a strong commitment to sustainability, minimizing our impact on the environment while still offering the most reliable products for powering your equipment. In fact, today, lead valve batteries are the single most-efficiently recycled item on the market, with almost 100% of materials and products sustainably sorted and re-used. 

Sustainability and Savings

From the very beginning, MK Battery had its sights set on producing a quality product at an affordable price. To do this, we had to harvest as much of our building material as possible from recycled sources. Thus, we began by rebuilding old batteries in a small shop. During the rebuilding process, we would reuse as many of the precious metals and materials as we could, and limit our waste. Our entire business has been built from the ground up on this principle.

Changing the Industry

As we’ve grown, we have also set new goals for ourselves, and we have made a lasting impact on the battery industry as a whole. One of our greatest achievements was being able to eliminate waste water and reclaim battery acid, which had never been done before. Over time we have also added recycling facilities for battery cases, which allows us to reuse the plastic exteriors of batteries as well. In doing so, we are able to produce brand new batteries with minimal input from outside materials, keeping both our overhead costs and our environmental impact at a bare minimum.

Carbon Emissions

Of course, our commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop at our factory doors. We are well aware that carbon emissions created by our plants can also be harmful. That is why we have worked closely with the EPA to monitor our emissions and limit them as much as possible. We have even been awarded the Environmental Stewardship Award by the Pennsylvania Institute for Children’s Environmental Health for our production practices.
